Experts

graphic Getting the right expert is critical to presenting your case. Here’s what makes our services unique:

You understand the value that a medical expert will make in your case. Finding the right expert is critical. We have access to medical experts who are recognized leaders in their specialties. We know how to find the right physicians and experts — professionals who will deliver the information and credibility you need for your case. These are experts who serve on both sides, because juries will more easily reject testimony from experts who serve as “plaintiff” witnesses only.

We then work with you on case preparation, strategy and negotiation. We also help you prepare for depositions of defendants and their experts. When you work with Second Opinion, it’s like having an in-house team of professionals who can guide and support your medical malpractice work at each critical step of the process.

How we choose an expert

The types of experts we use

How we choose an expert

Experts are chosen specific to the details of the case and the venue.

We always try and obtain an expert within reasonable geographic proximity to the location of the plaintiff attorney. This makes it more efficient and less costly for the attorney to interface with the expert.

Liability experts must be board certified in the same specialty
as the defendant.

Damages experts must be board certified in the specialty area of the alleged damages. e.g. neurologist for neurological injuries, orthopedist for orthopedic injuries, oncologist for cancer damages, etc.

In addition all experts:

bulletmust have training and experience with the matter in question.
They must have taken a fellowship, treated the condition
and/or performed the procedure.
bulletmust have attended a top notch medical school and done
their internship and residency at highly credible institutions.
bulletmust review and testify for the defense as well as the plaintiff.
Experts who serve only for the plaintiff have less credibility.
